Hello, friends, in this article you will learn the different types of bearing and their application.
The bearing is a mechanical component, used to support the shaft from various load conditions and reduces the friction between the moving parts. so bearings are used where the motion has involved the selection of the bearing. it depends upon the load condition and the motion requirement, the components of the bearing are sealed, outer ring, inner ring, rolling element, cage, these are the components. the bearings are widely used in machines.
Before we are going to discuss the types of bearing, we will discuss the rolling elements.
The rolling elements are used in the bearings are ball, spherical rollers, cylindrical rollers, needle rollers, and tapered rollers. The rolling element withstands the load from the shaft, the type of roller you are using in the bearing, defines the load-carrying capacity. the ball bearing as you can see here the less contact, and in the cylindrical roller and spherical roller has more contact area, so more contact area will be the load-carrying, capacity, and more will be the friction.
Their types of bearings are radial bearing, thrust bearing, general and sliding contact bearing, and some special-purpose bearings. There are two types of load acting on the shaft: one is axial load, and another one is the radial load. The axial load is acting along the axis of the shaft, and the radial load is acting perpendicular to the axis of the sharp.
The radial bearing withstands the radial loads, and the thrust bearing is generally stood the axial load.
In the next figure, you can see the combined load which is the resultant of the axial and the radial load. The ball bearing is a commonly used type of bearing, and it is used to handle both radial and thrust loads. The various types of ball bearings are available in the market.
Single Row Ball Bearing, in that type of single row ball bearings, the balls are arranged in a single row, and they are used to handle the radial loads.
Double row ball bearings in that, the balls are arranged in two rows. compared to single row ball bearing, double row ball bearing has more load-carrying capacity. these types of ball bearing are used at very high rotational speed because it offers low friction, low noise, and low vibration.
Angular Contact Ball Bearing. In this type of bearing, the inner and outer ring is in contact with the ball at an angle, so it can take both the radial and the axial load. The load-carrying capacity of the bearing depends upon the ball and the ring contact angle.
Self-aligning Ball Bearing. These types of ball bearing are used where the angular misalignment of the shaft with the housing.
Thrust Ball Bearing is used to handle the axial load only. it is available in a single and a double direction bearing.
The next one is a roller bearing. in a roller bearing, we use here roller to support the rotating shaft. so the roller can provide a large contact area compared to the ball bearing. the roller bearings are used in a power generation unit, wind turbine. you need gear drives and machines and the gear reduction unit. The various types of roller bearings are available in the market.
Straight Roller Bearing, in that the cylindrical roller handles the thrust coming from the housing.
Tapered Roller Bearing, the rollers are arranged at an angle. So the taper roller bearing can handle the axial and the radial lower force.
Cylindrical Roller Thrust Bearing. these types of bearing will handle the only axial load.
Spherical Roller Bearing, in a spherical roller bearing, the inner ring with the two raceways at an angle, is used to handle the heavy radial and the axial load.
General And Sliding Bearings, these types of bearings have the largest surface contact and large frictional. these types of bearings will operate more silently, and these types of bearings are suitable for medium and high-speed operations. So, here the attention toward the lubrication is very important because here more friction. The selection of the bearing depends on the size, load condition, and speed of the shaft.
Some Special-purpose Bearings are Magnetic Bearings and Gland Roller Bearings. magnetic types of bearings are used in high-speed devices. in these types of bearing, there are no moving parts. The next one is the gland roller bearing, these types of bearing are used in large and heavy load applications.
